The TV series of Pokemon doesn’t directly stick to the story of the video games, and vice versa. And that doesn’t even cover the adventures in the Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos regions of the Pokemon world. People can actually feel a sense of nostalgia when they remember saving Saffron City from Team Rocket in Red and Blue, that jaw dropping moment when the final boss of Gold and Silver was the Champion protagonist from the previous generation.
While Pokemon Sun and Moon plan to shake the Pokemon flagship video game franchise up, the series as a whole has a long history of titles dating back 20 years now.
